Background

We are honored to be the trusted HR consulting partner for our esteemed client, a municipality located in Connecticut, with over 500 employees spread across 15 diverse departments. 

The Human Resource Consulting Group (HRCG) was selected to help enhance teamwork, foster a healthier work environment, and improve employee performance over an 18-month period.

HRCG quickly came in to assess the current team and workplace environment to diligently identify and address the prevailing leadership challenges. After, an HR service plan was developed to provide a roadmap for a successful human capital management (HCM) strategy. 

Challenge #1: Enhancing Collaboration

Due to its complex leadership structure which included 15 department heads reporting to a central authority, the municipality was experiencing several negative impacts on the organization, including a lack of effective communication and collaboration which was beginning to affect front-line workers.

HRCG understood the importance of fostering effective internal communication and improving collaboration.

Starting with a comprehensive investigation, including individual interviews and team discussions, our experienced Human Resource Business Partner (HRBP) unveiled the root that caused this discord within the organization. HRCG then developed a specific service plan to address this issue by orchestrating a combination of group training, development programs, and personalized coaching for the leadership team.

This solution effectively addressed the specific leadership obstacles, enhanced conflict resolution, and as a result, significantly improved collaboration within the team. Now, the client fosters a workplace culture of true collaboration, not only improving internal operations but also making the organization a more appealing place to work for future and prospective employees.

Challenge #2: Building a Performance Culture

The municipality was facing a significant gap in role clarity within the departments, leading to poor accountability mechanisms, and an informally structured performance review process.

HRCG introduced a structured performance review system to address this issue. Our performance review system instilled a more structured rhythm in their operations, setting clear expectations, performance measurements, and a comprehensive overhaul to the process.

This shift in the performance review process enhanced the operational structure of the organization. With the ability to now set clear expectations for each role while providing and communicating performance measurement metrics to employees, this municipality is driving more positive outcomes for the town and its workers.
